About Us
KAEE is one of the country’s oldest associations supporting environmental education. KAEE represents teachers, government, industry, parents, students — people who know that education is essential for making wise decisions concerning the environment.
KAEE’s mission is to create a sustainable environment through education. To accomplish that goal, we offer several workshops and an outstanding conference each year to educators throughout the state. We also offer members our quarterly newsletter, monthly email digest, getaway days, and information posted here on our site, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

About KAEE
Since 1976, the Kentucky Association for Environmental Education has worked to build a sustainable environment through education. The Kentucky Association for Environmental Education (KAEE) is one of the country’s oldest associations supporting environmental education and the first affiliate of the North American Association for Environmental Education.
KAEE includes people from all walks of life – teachers, administrators, government and agency personnel, business and industry representatives, and private citizens. KAEE works with members and partners, such as the Kentucky Environmental Education Council, to bring sound environmental education to all citizens of the Commonwealth, both young and old. We work together because we care about education, our environment, and our future.
KAEE relies on the skills and talents of the many dedicated educators of our state to build environmental education into their curricula and programs. The educational principles that KAEE promotes were developed through the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education, sponsored by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). KAEE works to ensure that education about the environment will be taught in every classroom in Kentucky.
Environmental Education:
- is learner-centered, providing students with opportunities to construct their own understanding through hands-on, minds-on investigations.
- recognizes the importance of investigating the environment within the context of human influences, incorporating an examination of economics, culture, political structure, and social equity as well as natural processes and systems
- is effective education. It increases public awareness and knowledge about environmental issues and provides the skills to make informed decisions and take responsible actions. Environmental Education does not advocate a particular viewpoint or course of action.
Our Mission and Vision
The mission of KAEE is to build a sustainable environment through education. To accomplish that goal, we have developed vision statements to guide our actions.
